Members,
Your Negotiating Committee wants to give you an update on our negotiation’s session with the District June 5. This was to be our third session, however, a meeting scheduled for May 15 was canceled by the district due to unforeseen circumstances.
Our first session, held March 28, allowed us to present our proposals to the district. While we cannot divulge those proposals, we assure you they included everything our membership has expressed needing or wanting, since our last contract.
The June 5 session got off to a positive start with HR Chief Tami Hollie-McGee acknowledging our presence at the board of education meetings. She said testimony and statements made by members of the SUB Executive Committee about issues facing substitute teachers in the district, were “noted and appreciated.”
Chief McGee said that she will be reaching out to those members who have spoken at board meetings to get more information about these issues. So we encourage members to attend board meetings and to watch for more actions that you may be asked to engage in to support negotiations.
During our negotiations session, the District responded to the proposals that we introduced in our first session. We came to tentative agreements on a number of small but important items and we engaged in positive and meaningful discussion on a number of larger items that the district will present counter proposals to at our next session. The tone of the negotiations continues to be productive, collaborative, and respectful and we remain hopeful that things are moving in a positive direction. Our next negotiating session is scheduled for June 30th.
We also want to note that this is the OFFICIAL update from your Negotiating Committee. No other communications from Substitutes United executive committee members, delegates, or members is not authorized and should be disregarded. Please reach out to Chris Salamone if you have questions about communications.
