Bonus Pay Information Reminders:
You must work 50 FULL days from September 4, 2025 – January 23, 2026 in order to receive the $1,000.00 bonus for the first semester. You must work 50 FULL days from January 26, 2026 – June 25, 2026, (the last day of work), to receive the $1,000.00 bonus for the second semester.
REMINDERS:
20 Day Work Reminder: You must work 20 days per year to remain an active substitute in good standing. Substitutes who do not work the 20 days are not qualified to hold any position in Substitutes United of Buffalo. Although the District is to supposed to notify substitutes who may not reach this goal, not doing so does not protect your continued employment or preclude you from running for the Executive Board of SUB.
Discipline: If you are called to the office by administration for discipline reasons or questions – STOP THE MEETING! Call the union immediately (716-256-6827). Do NOT hand in anything in writing until a union representative looks at it! Anything you say or write can and will be used against you!
Fights: Do NOT break up any fights of any kind between students! EVER! Instead call the Main Office every School and ask for immediate assistance. The extension in most schools is 1000.
BPS Email: DO YOU KNOW that ALL Substitute Teachers have a BPS email address? If you do not know your BPS email address and/or password call 816-3510 Ext. #1.
BPS emails contain YOUR PAYSTUB, important communications from the District, the Subdesk, payroll, etc.
Substitutes United/Buffalo WILL NOT and CAN NOT communicate personal union business via your BPS email address.
SU/Buffalo will communicate with you via your personal email address and this website substitutesunitedofbuffalo.org.
Unemployment: If you think you qualify for unemployment OR you want to know what the qualifications are go to: https://www.ny.gov/services/get-unemployment-assistance
NYS Retirement: Have you joined the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System? If not, go to www.nystrs.org for information on how to enroll.
Keys to the Classrooms: You do have the right to a key to the classroom you will be teaching in.
For numerous reasons keys are not always available for each classroom (keys lost, taken home by the Teacher, taken home by the Sub, request to get new keys placed and waiting for one of two locksmiths for the entire District to have the keys made, etc).
If there is NOT a key available and Security or an Administrator has to open your door, make sure they keep the door locked for your safety in case of a lockdown, emergency, etc. It will be painstaking for you and the Administration to open the door each time you need to get in, but your and your students’ safety is more important.
