Pay Day Updates

Snow Day Pay:

Due to the time consuming process involved in determining who is eligible for snow day pay, substitutes who worked the snow day, Thursday, Jan. 15, will not see this pay until their January 30 or February 13th paycheck, according to Patrick Burke, of the Sub Desk.

Burke explained that the payroll calculations are done by hand for more than 900 substitute teachers registered with the district. In addition, each has to be individually investigated to determine who worked and if so, if they were scheduled five days prior to the snow day, as outlined in the new contract.

“Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do it and it takes a lot of time to determine who is eligible for the snow day pay,” Burke said.

Retroactive Pay Hike:

The retroactive pay, like the snow day pay, is calculated individually for more than 900 substitute teachers. The Sub Desk must determine how many days each sub worked, beginning July 1, through the day the calculations are done, figure out what their new pay rate is, and determine the individual payment for each substitute. This is a very time consuming process.

Once the calculations are complete, they are sent to Payroll, which then issues the checks. These checks are expected to be out by the end of February.

Bonus Checks:

Many substitutes have been inquiring as to when Bonus checks will be issued, but the first semester hasn’t even ended yet!

The first bonus period ends January 23. The checks, like always, will be issued sometime in February.

Be Patient:

Please be patient! The Sub Desk and I have received numerous calls and are working to the best of our ability to get everything set up. Once everything is calculated, future payments will be regular and less cumbersome. Don’t forget, the Sub Desk is not only calculating all our funds, they are doing the entire district! Besides SUB, the aides, bus drivers, and several other unions also had contract
