Only Certified Teachers Required to Take Mandated Reporter training

Substitute teachers, who do not hold a NYS teaching certificate, are not required to take the mandated reporter training that teachers must complete by April 1. 

Substitute teachers who are certified, including retirees who are substituting, who want to maintain their certification in NYS, must take the training and send their certificate of completion to the New York State Education Department via the TEACH System.  The training is offered free on the NYSED website.
